Pickside is a platform for sport enthusiastic to join or host games

PickSide

Project-2023

"How can we create a platform for busy young professionals in Montreal who crave social connections and opportunities to play sports, but struggle to find like-minded individuals to team up with and lack the time to organize games themselves?"

Problem Statement

In Montreal, there's a clear need for a social app focused on sports. People want an easy way to connect, organize, and join sports matches, but the options are limited. With our short summers, finding friends for a game of football is tough, especially with busy schedules.

As we get older, making new friends becomes harder, and keeping up with existing ones isn't easy either. It's even tougher to find like-minded people who want to play sports in their free time.

With nearly 40% of Quebec's population being Millennials and Gen Z, there's a big demand for a solution to this problem.

That's where PickSide comes in. We're creating a simple app to bring Montreal's sports lovers together and make organizing games a breeze.

Pie Chart

Market Research

There aren't many platforms dedicated to athletic socializing in Montreal. While Meetup is popular, it's mainly used by older generations and lacks a focus on sports. This leaves an opportunity to create a platform tailored for Millennials and Gen Z who are passionate about sports and socializing.

While Facebook Groups serve as a hub for local communities and interest groups to organize sports activities, they may not fully address the specific needs of users seeking to find a sports team. The platform lacks dedicated features tailored to efficiently connect individuals, making it less effective for resolving this particular user problem.

User Research

Through interviews with four sport enthusiasts, I gained valuable insights into their challenges and desires when it comes to setting up matches and finding teammates. You can check the survey here. Then with the help of affinity map I extracted four main pain points.

1

Sport enthusiasts struggle to find people who are both interested in teaming up for a match and available at the same time.

Difficulty in Finding Compatible Players

2

Lack of Player Information

When joining games with random people, there's a lack of information about their level of proficiency or skill level.

No-Show Frustration

3

It's frustrating when a significant percentage of players who committed to a game fail to show up on the promised day.

This inconsistency disrupts the game experience and reduces the enjoyment for those who do attend.
